Aneita's Obituary

Aneita Mummaw, 92, of Benton Harbor, MI went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at Cartel Inns of Lakeland with her family at her side.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday February 12, 2019 at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 121 Kline St. on the corner of Colfax and Kline, Benton Harbor, with Pastor Jeff Bolwerk officiating.  Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Friends may visit from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Monday, February 11, 2019 at Starks and Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Service, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph.  Memorials may be made to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. Those wishing to share a memory of Aneita online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com  Aneita was born August 11, 1926 in Benton Harbor, MI to John and Cornelia (Miller) Hein.  She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1944.  In 1966, at the age of 40, she decided to continue her education and received an Associate’s Degree from Lake Michigan College in 1968.  She then continued her education and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Western Michigan University in 1970 and her Master’s Degree in 1973.   On June 4, 1949, she married Donald “Bud” Mummaw at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church.  They shared sixty-four years of married life as each other’s best friend.  In 1970, Aneita was hired by Lakeshore Public School to teach second and third grade at Roosevelt Elementary School.  She retired after twenty-one years of teaching at the age of sixty-seven. Aneita was a lifetime member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church where she enjoyed volunteering her time for any activity or event where they needed someone to serve.  She held every office in the Ladies’ Aide and was chairman of many events held at the church and school.  Her proudest accomplishment was singing in the church choir for 77 consecutive years, she loved praising the Lord with her voice. Aneita was also secretary for Aid Association of Lutherans (Thrivent) for over 60 years.  Quilting was a passion for Aneita in her retirement.  She was a member of numerous quilting guilds.  She would display her quilts at many shows and won grand champion quilt for her Spinning Stars quilt.  She was a magnificent seamstress over her lifetime.  If Aneita wasn’t sewing, she would be traveling.  Aneita and her husband Bud were worldwide traveler and traveled to over thirty different countries and visited all fifty states at least twice. Aneita also attended Bible Study Fellowship for over 24 years. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she attended every activity they were involved in and will be remembered for never missing any type of event.  Aneita is survived by her daughter Mrs. Barbara Lange, son Tim (Vanessa) Mummaw both of Stevensville, grandchildren, David (Micah) Lange and Katie Lange, James (Katie) Mummaw and Jill (Jon) Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Lucas and Jackson Lange, and Knox and Lainey Mitchell; plus, many nieces and nephews.  Aneita was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald “Bud” Mummaw, son-in-law Donald Lange, and siblings, Olga Morris, Linda Duncan, Herbert Hein, and Eda Keller. Aneita was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend.  Her family, friends, and church family will dearly miss her.  On Monday Heaven gained a new angel.  Aneita has reached the ultimate glory of eternal life with the Lord she loved so much.
