John P. Robinson, 89, of St. Joseph, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 15, 2018, at Caretel Inns of Lakeland. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 22, 2018, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 555 E. Delaware Ave., Benton Harbor, MI with Father Ben Huynh officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Benton Harbor. Memorial contributions may be made to donor’s choice. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com John was born on May 4, 1929, to Thomas and Gertrude (Boot) Robinson in Holland, MI. He graduated from St. John’s High School and then went on to the University of Notre Dame where he earned his Bachelor’s in Business Administration. On January 29, 1953, he married Elizabeth “Betty” Gaipa in Watervliet and they moved to Hawaii, where he served with the U.S. Army for two years. John was an adventurous spirit and enjoyed various types of farming and being outdoors. He was a longtime volunteer for Birthright. Most of all, John loved his family. John is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty; children, Thomas (Kathy) Robinson, Ronald Robinson, Jane Filer, Mary (Steve) Luscomb and Carolyn (Ross) Fink; grandchildren, Katie (Dave) Mazzuca, Emily (Aaron) Johnson, Lucy (Eric) Scoles, Chrissy (Josh) Moore, Michael (Diana) Koehler, David (Kandy) Koehler, Mariel Fink and Owen Fink; great-grandchildren, Austin Hall, Kelsie Koehler, Kaelyn Moore, Lauren Moore and sisters, Gertrude Preble and Dorothy Ludlam. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Gertrude and seven siblings.
