Rickey Eugene Anderson

Rickey “Rick” Eugene Anderson, 60, of Benton Harbor, passed away at his home after a courageous 8 year battle with cancer on Friday, June 8, 2018. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 11AM at the First Church of God, 2627 Niles Ave., St. Joseph, MI with Pastor Bob Confer, Sr. officiating.  Friends may visit with the family on Monday, June 11, 2018 from 6PM until 8PM at Starks and Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd. Rick was born on July 26, 1957, to Cecil & Betty (Blodgett) Anderson in Benton Harbor. He was a 1975 graduate from St. Joseph High School. Rick married Janice Ann Parkin on May 5, 1984, in Michigan Center, MI.  He retired as a driver for United Van Lines after more than 20 years of service. More recently, he delivered flowers for Crystal Springs Florist. Rick was a member of the First Church of God and his faith in God and the support of his First Church of God, St. Joseph Campus, family allowed him to keep fighting and never lose hope. Rick volunteered at the YMCA, where he received the YMCA 2003 Service to Youth Award. He also volunteered for the First Church of God’s Just for Joy children’s program and Boy Scouts Troop 614.  He loved the great outdoors and had numerous landscape projects, which he had hopes of completing, including his most recent project “The Chipmunk Condo.” Most of all, Rick cherished the time he spent with his family. His cheerful attitude inspired many. Rick is survived by his wife, Janice Anderson of Benton Harbor, MI; his son Ryan Anderson of South Bend, IN; his father Cecil Anderson of St. Augustine, FL; and his extended family He was preceded in death by his Mother. Rick’s family would like to thank Dr. Paloyan, who Rick affectionately called “Boss,” and the staff at the Marie Yeager Cancer Center.
