Anne's Obituary

Anne Northrop Brockway, 87, of Baroda, passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Woodland Terrace in Bridgman after a brief battle with cancer. Anne was born on June 17, 1930, to George Milner and Florence Estelle (Newsome) Northrop in Newburgh, NY. After graduating from Dwight Englewood School, she attended Simmons College in Boston, MA. She later returned to school to complete her education, earning an Associate degree in nursing at Oakland Community College. While living in this area, she worked at Watervliet Community Hospital, and for Dr. Tony Salvagione. Anne married David Alfred Brockway on August 27, 1949 in Newburgh, NY. David’s career took them many places to live and raise their family of 3 girls. They loved to travel all over the world, and made many wonderful friends wherever they went. In addition to traveling, Anne enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles – which she was exceptional at completing – and swimming. She and her husband were very involved with the Blossomtime Festival, especially the Fashion Show, and the Miss Baroda Pageant. Most of all, Anne loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, attending as many of their activities as possible, including sporting events, band concerts and competitions, recitals, and plays. Anne is survived by her husband of 68 years, David, and 3 children. Their daughters are Patricia (Richard) Thistle of San Marcos, CA, Susan (Todd) Pautz of Oconomowoc, WI, and Lori (DeWayne) Hellenga of Stevensville. Grandchildren include Bryan (Loren) Thistle, Todd (Simona) Thistle, Matthew (Kirsten) Pagel, Jenna (Chris) Bell, Alicia Pautz, Derek and Dustin Hellenga. Great-grandchildren are Cosette and Kellan Thistle, and Oliver, Filip, Samuel, and William Thistle. She is also survived by a brother, Dr. Terry (Susan) Northrop of Montecito, CA. A Celebration of Life Service will be held May 18, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the First Congregational Church, 2001 Niles Ave. St. Joseph, MI with Rev. Dr. Robert Braman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A private inurnment will take place following the service at Ruggles Cemetery in Baroda, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lakeshore Excellence Foundation, Lakeshore Band, Miss Baroda Blossomtime Queen Contest, or First Congregational Church. Those wishing to send a condolence or sign the guest book online may do so at www.stark-menchinger.com. Anne will be remembered for her indomitable spirit, her generous heart, and her love and support of family. She was fun-loving, courageous, intelligent and more than slightly opinionated – don’t talk politics! She will truly be missed – our wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. We love you!
