Leo Carl Tiefenbach, 93, of Stevensville, passed away at Caretel Assisted Living in St. Joseph, MI on Sunday, March 18, 2018. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home – 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI.
Leo was born on February 15, 1925 in Bridgman, MI to the late Carl and Tillie (Schmidt) Tiefenbach. He attended St. Joseph schools. In 1943 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and proudly served his country. On May 17, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Joseph he married Elaine Ruth Jeschke. While a member of Trinity, he was a finance committee member and an usher. Leo was a life member and corresponding secretary of the F.O.P. Lodge #96; a member of the Stevensville American Legion Post #568; a Volunteer of the Year 2002/2003 of the Mendel Center Main Stage Symphony; a volunteer for the St. Joseph Lincoln Senior Center; a current member of Christ Lutheran Church in Stevensville – where he was active in the Soup Kitchen, on the finance board and with the newsletter. He was a tool and die maker by trade having worked at New Products for 26 ½ years and at Allied Signal (Bendix) for 16 ½ years. Leo also loved crafting many stained glass projects, walking and cooking for his grandson Andy.
Surviving Leo is his wife of over 70 years Elaine; his children – Cheryl (Kerry) Langford of Oceano, CA, Carol (Dale) Mosher of Muskegon, MI, Robert (Donna) Tiefenbach of Macomb, MI and Ronald (Mary Jo) Tiefenbach of Columbus, OH; and grandsons – Andy and Douglas Ransom and Brian Langford. He is preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
A celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, March 22, 1:00 P.M. at Christ Lutheran Church – 4333 Cleveland Ave., Stevensville, MI, with Pastor Martin Measel officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma, MI. Visitation precedes the service at the church from 12:00-1:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to either Christ Lutheran Church or the St. Joseph Lincoln Sr. Center or to Caring Circle Hospice.
