Thomas R. Mensinger

Thomas “Tom” R. Mensinger, 66, of St. Joseph, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, February 9, 2018 at The University of Chicago Medical Center. Per Tom’s request cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, July 28, from 1 PM until 5 PM at 5236 Wilshire Terrace, St. Joseph. Tom was born on September 9, 1951 to Ovie & Margaret Rosemary “Rose” (Miller) Mensinger. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1970 and continued his education at Ferris State University where he earned his Associates in Graphic Arts in 1972. After graduation, Tom began working at Advertising Workshop where he worked as a Keyliner. In 1974, Tom started doing freelance work for Don Johnson in his basement; Don later became a partner in Tom’s company and it evolved into Johnson-Rauhoff. Tom was the longest-term employee at 45 years. On September 21, 1974, Tom married the love of his life, Katherine “Kathy” Egeland, in St. Joseph. Tom was an incredible artist. He would create anything from cartoon animations and paintings to stained glass and building with wood and a genius at packaging. He was a Jack-Of-All-Trades and could figure out how to tackle any task put in front of him. Tom would often spend his time barbequing on his deck for family and friends, relaxing in his man cave watching his beloved Chicago Cubs & Bears and occasionally on Friday afternoons, he liked to take off work to see a newly released movie. Tom was a kind, funny, loyal, gentle man, who was meticulous about the details. He could put a smile on everyone’s face with his great sense of humor. He will be missed deeply by all who knew him. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Kathy; sons, Rob (Kelly) Mensinger of Manchester, CT and Christopher Mensinger of St. Joseph; brother, Michael (Jana) Mensinger of Darien, IL; sister, Karen (Bradley) Pribbernow of Benton Harbor; nephews, Michael & Daniel Mensinger; aunts, Phyllis Roberts, Donna Miller and Bess Miller; good family friends, The Petersons & The Johnsons; loving dog, Maggie; loving grand-beagles, Tiberius and Liza; and many other cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Ovie & Rose; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
