Ralph John Harju

Ralph J. Harju, 80, of St. Joseph, MI passed away Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Pine Ridge Nursing Home in Stevensville. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the spring and announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Box Factory for the Arts. Those wishing to sign Ralph’s guestbook may do so online at www.starks-menchinger.com. Ralph was born on May 4, 1937 in Maywood, IL to John & Erna (Frenk) Harju. He was a graduate of Proviso High School class of 1955. He went on to attend college and receive his Bachelor’s Degree from Knox College in 1959 and his MBA from the University of Chicago in 1972. On July 29, 1967 he wed Elaine Casello in Chicago. Ralph proudly served his county in the United States Army. He was a self-employed marketing manager for many years before retiring. Ralph was a formula V race car driver for 10 years, he was also an avid runner for 20 years, running many half marathons and 1 full marathon. He had a lifelong passion for photography, was a member of the Twin City Camera Club, and enjoyed his time spent at the Box Factory for the Arts. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Elaine; daughter Melissa (Adam) Vos of Chicago and grandchildren Taylor & Zoe Vos. He was preceded in death by his parents.
