Jamey's Obituary
James Harley Brown, 96, of Venice, FL (formerly of Benton Harbor), passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at the Hanson Hospice Center.
Cremation has occurred and there will be a private burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN at a later date. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
James was born on May 15, 1921, to Lester and Frances (Bodjack) Brown in Benton Harbor. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School and married the former Oleeta Yost. He was a proud veteran, serving in the United States Navy from 1938 until 1945.
Most will remember James at the former owner of the Campus Q in Benton Harbor. A proud businessman, he could regale you with anecdotes of life in a billiards club.
James is survived by his son, James “Jim” (Carol) Brown; three grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Lester D. Brown Jr., Marylynn Rock, Louise Scheuer, and Shirley Rukes. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Oleeta; and brothers, Jerry Brown and Mark Brown.
