AngelaJo B. Naines, 88, of St. Joseph, passed away, Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 13 at Peace Lutheran Church, 3590 Lincoln Ave., St. Joseph, with Rev. Steve Hartten officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Sunday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. AngelaJo was born October 20, 1929 in Rockford, Illinois to Joseph & Lillian (Rotolo) Barbagallo. She attended Rockford College where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics with minors in Art & Education. While there, she met her future husband on a blind date. After graduation, she began her teaching career at Morris Kennedy School in Rockford, IL. On June 14, 1952, she married Joseph Naines at St. Bridget’s in Loves Park, IL. AngelaJo continued her career with the Evanston, IL School District, teaching at Lincoln, Washington & Miller Schools. During this time she attended Northwestern University Graduate School of Education. She also taught Adult Education Night School for the Skokie School District for six years. The family moved to St. Joseph in 1968 and AngelaJo taught Adult Ed for St. Joseph Public Schools, served as a substitute teacher, and finished her career with Lakeshore Schools Adult Ed. She was a former member of First Congregational Church in St. Joseph where she taught Sunday School, was a member of Mary Martha Circle serving as president, the Women’s Fellowship serving on the board, and a member of the Book Club. She was currently a member of Peace Lutheran Church. AngelaJo was a member of Monday Musical where she served as the Monthly Art chairperson, and a member of the American Association of University Women where she served as chairperson of the Art Show and served on the board. She also served as a troop leader for her daughter’s Girl Scout Troop.
AngelaJo enjoyed spending time with her family, knitting, gardening and watching and identifying birds in her yard. She also loved doing jigsaw puzzles, reading mystery novels, and watching All My Children, classic movies and Dancing with the Stars.
AngelaJo is survived by her husband Joseph; and two daughters-Monica Eberhardt of St. Joseph, and Maribeth (Douglas) Wonson of Southlake, TX. She was the beloved Mimi to four grandchildren-Nicole (Tim, Jr.) Thorsby, Keith Eberhardt, Alyssa & Samuel Wonson; and her great-grandson Timmy Thorsby, III. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her son-in-law Keith Eberhardt.
