Dennis's Obituary

Dennis G. Ashley, 59, of Stevensville passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017, at Lakeland Medical Center, St. Joseph. A celebration of life gathering will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph, at a later date. Those wishing to send a condolence or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Seven Star Rescue. Dennis was born on Sept. 6, 1958, in Benton Harbor, the son of Lorenzo and Connie (Kelm) Ashley. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1986. Dennis was an accomplished chef and was employed at several different restaurants including The Red Apple Inn, The Mount Washington, Pebblewood Country Club, O’ Brien’s Inn and Resort and Berrien Hills Country Club where he used his skills in a variety of ways including ice carving and garden manager. He was an avid Colts and White Sox fan. Dennis also enjoyed watching and attending World Wrestling Entertainment events. Dennis is survived by his son, Tim Ashley of Benton Harbor; daughter, Sara (Mark) Pyburn of Benton Harbor; brothers, Steve and Brian (Tammy) Ashley; best friend, Tim Peck; brother-in-law, Mike Cotter; and ex-wife and mother of his children, Barb Ashley. He was preceded in death by his father, Lorenzo Ashley; mother, Connie Phillips; stepfather, Charlie Phillips; grandparents, Alvina and Leopold Kelm; and sister, Diana Cotter.
