Mary's Obituary

Mary J. Richardson, 89, of St. Joseph, passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, November 13, 2017 at 11 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 220 Church St., St. Joseph with Father Arul Lazar officiating. A private burial will take place at a later date. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, November 12, 2017 from 5 PM until 7 PM with a prayer service beginning at 6:45 PM, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorial contributions may be made to Hanson Hospice Center or Caring Circle. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Mary was born on November 7, 1928, in Cleveland, OH, to Wilbur & Margaret (Connors) Midnight. On June 20, 1949, she married the love of her life, John O. Richardson, in Evanston, IL. They were happily married for 57 years before his passing in 2006. Together, Mary and John raised 9 children. In their retirement, the two of them loved to travel the world; especially taking cruises and exploring Europe. Mary also enjoyed reading, playing bridge and hosting events for her friends. She was a strong woman of faith and a proud member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. However, spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the most to her. She was an incredible person who will be missed dearly by all. Mary is survived by her children, John M. (Ruth) Richardson of Anaheim, CA, Susan (Donald) Crain of West Chester, OH, Thomas M. (Ross Johnsen) Richardson of Union Pier, MI, David F. (Bénédicte) Richardson of Redwood City, CA, Mary K. Richardson of Indianapolis, IN, Christine M. (Charles) Roma of Albuquerque, NM, Sarah E. (Christopher) Kane of Lombard, IL, and Patricia J. (Robert) Petry of Blue Ash, OH; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Alvin Jones of Mishawaka, IN. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur & Margaret; husband, John O.; daughter, Catherine Jones; and brother, Francis B. ‘Frank’ Midnight.
