Francis C. “Ted” Fleisher, 83, of St. Joseph Township, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2017.
Ted was born on March 27, 1934 in Berrien Springs, Mich., son of the late Francis T. and Martha R. (Clark) Fleisher, and graduated from Baroda High School in 1952. He was a Korean War veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1955. Upon returning home, Ted attended Tri-State University, where he earned a B.S. in Business Administration in 1958. He then worked as an accountant for Bendix Corp/Clark Equipment until 1961, when he joined the St. Joseph Police Department. Ted married Janice Lea France on January 5, 1963, and they were happily married for 41 years until her passing in 2004. Ted proudly served the people and City of St. Joseph for 35 years as he rose through the ranks from Patrolman to Chief of Police before retiring in 1996. Ted and Janice were long time active members of the First United Methodist Church. Ted had a love for the outdoors and spent time with friends and family hunting, fishing, and playing golf, and he especially enjoyed the time he spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Ted is survived by his children John (Oxford, Mich.) and Sarah (Michael) Juengling (Berrien Center, Mich.) and nine grandchildren: Wyatt, Wesley, Shane, and Caidan Fleisher; Thomas and Hannah Moore; Kira, Kendra, and Kaeli Juengling. He was preceded in death by his brother, William.
Visitation will be held Saturday, October 21st at the First United Methodist Church in St. Joseph from 10am-11am with the service to follow at 11am.
