Leroy James Powers

LeRoy James Powers, 86, of Benton Harbor, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 14, 2017. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI.  LeRoy “Skip” was born on June 16, 1931 in Three Oaks, MI, where he had fond memories of his childhood. He graduated from Three Oaks High School in 1949 and always looked forward to his “49ers” class reunion to see his old friends, who were like family to him. After serving in the Air Force, he returned home and worked for Whirlpool for 37 years, where he met his best friends Erv and Toni Kreter, who introduced him to his wife Jackie. He and Jackie had a long wonderful life together filled with family and friends. They shared and supported one another in whatever endeavors they took on. They were happy to organize get togethers for a good meal, card game or just to talk with family and friends. They were there for others.  Sadly, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Jacqueline in 2015. He is survived by two daughters, Susan Powers and Linda (Bob) White, and a son Jim (Nicole Moon) Powers; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren that he loved dearly. He will be greatly missed.  A private celebration of his life will be set at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Joseph, MI.
