Richard's Obituary

Richard Hubbard Foster, 69, formerly of Benton Harbor, passed away Monday, October 9, 2017 at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans where he most recently resided.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:30 A.M. Friday, October 20, 2107 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Rev. Tom Bird officiating. Graveside services will follow at Crystal Springs Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the North Berrien Military Rites Team.  Memorial donations in Richard’s name may be made to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, 3000 Monroe Ave., NE, Grand Rapids, MI  49503.  Those wishing to sign Richard’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.   Richard was born February 3, 1948 in St. Joseph to Ernest & Merle (Hubbard) Foster. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School, Class of 1967 and earned his Associates degree from Lake Michigan College.  Richard served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War.  He owned and operated a restaurant for several years in the Sister Lakes area, later spending the majority of his career working in area grocery stores.  In his free time Richard enjoyed photography, traveling, and spending time on the beaches along Lake Michigan.  Richard is survived by his son Tyler Foster of Stevensville; his sister Judith (Arthur) Beaman of Benton Harbor; two brothers-George (Shirley) Foster of St. Joseph & David (Karen) Foster of Benton Harbor; and several nieces, nephews & cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son Trent Foster, his brother Stephen Foster, his nephew Ronald Blurton, and his brother-in-law Harry Sauer.
