Dale J. Frie

Dale J. Frie, 59, of Suffolk, Virginia, passed away, Sunday, September 3, 2017 at his home.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Grace Lutheran Church, 404 E. Glenlord Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Noah Headrick officiating. Burial will follow with Military Honors 2:30 P.M. Saturday at West Oshtemo Cemetery in Kalamazoo, Michigan.  Memorial donations in Dale’s name may be made to Pancreatic Association-PanCan.org.  Those wishing to sign Dale’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.    Dale was born September 6, 1957 in Kalamazoo to John & Kathleen (Johnson) Frie. He graduated from Delton Kellogg High School in 1975 and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Nuclear Technology from Siena Heights College.  On June 4, 1977 he married Cindy Skiles in Delton, Michigan.  Dale served his country in the US Navy stationed on the USS John C. Calhoun Nuclear Submarine as a nuclear mechanic.  He was employed as an instructor at Zion, D.C. Cook & Beaver Valley Nuclear power plants.  Dale was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Twin Lakes, WI, Grace Lutheran Church in St. Joseph & Resurrection Lutheran Church in Chesapeake, VA. While living in Wisconsin, Dale was very involved with Boy Scouts and Explorers as a troop leader and advisor.  He coached soccer & softball as well.  In Michigan he was involved with NAMI, DBSA and the local genealogy society. He enjoyed watching sports with his family, especially the Detroit Tigers, Lions & Red Wings, and the Michigan Wolverines. Dale enjoyed hunting, fishing, birding and hiking.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.  Dale is survived by his wife Cindy; his children-Brandy Frie, Candice Frie, Random (Nicki) Frie-all of Suffolk; four grandchildren-Ariana, Jayden, Avery & Atlas; his parents John & Kathleen Frie of Delton, MI; siblings-Eric (Kathy) Frie of Prairieville, MI, Nate (Kolleen) Frie of Tekonsha, MI Jean (Dan) Quick of Delton, MI, Timothy (Celeste) Frie of Avon, OH; and numerous nieces & nephews and extended family.
