Margaret's Obituary

Margaret Rose, 64, of Saint Joseph, MI died peacefully on September 3, 2017 after a short second battle with cancer. Born January 24, 1953 in Benton Harbor, MI she is preceded in death by her father, Floyd Corteville. Margaret Rose worked as a special education teacher in Lakeshore Public Schools until her retirement in 2008. The majority of her teaching years were spent at Hollywood Elementary school where she created a Butterfly Garden and helped with the Hollywood Garden.  Throughout the years she was involved in many organizations such as the Benton Harbor Street Ministry, Church Women United and the Sarret Nature Center.  She also strongly supported Wayne and Katherine Niles, missionaries to the Democratic Republic of Congo. During her retirement Margaret became heavily involved in advocating against human trafficking with the organization Project Liberty, and also was actively involved in the American Baptist Women’s Ministries of Michigan.  Margaret Rose tried to make a difference in the lives of everyone she met. Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Charles Rose of St. Joseph; her mother, Carolyn Corteville of Benton Harbor; her sons, Matthew(Asuka) Rose of Stuttgart, Germany and Brian Rose of St. Joseph; her daughter, Elizabeth(Jacob) Davis of Laingsburg, MI; her five granddaughters , Alyssa Rose, Micah Davis, Ellie Davis, Zoe Davis and Eden Davis; her grandson, Nathaniel Davis;  and her siblings; Douglas(Linda) Corteville, Carol Beth(Dan) Frosolone, Gertrude(Billy) Roberts and Christopher(Andrea) Corteville. A Celebration of Life service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 9th, at the First Baptist Church in St. Joseph. Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 p.m Friday, September 8th at Starks Family Funeral Home in St. Joseph. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sarett Nature Center or Berrien County Cancer Service.
