Adolf Schlender, 77, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, August 28, 2017 at Caretel Inns of Lakeland. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, September 1, 2017 at 11 AM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Pastor Jeff Bolwerk officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, August 31, 2017, from 5 PM until 7 PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel. Memorial contributions in Adolf’s name may be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation – The Michigan Great Lakes Chapter. Those wishing to sign Adolf’s guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com Adolf was born on July 28, 1940, to Theodor & Ottilie (Weidenthal) Schlender in Kirschberg, Poland. He worked as a Set-Up Operator for Paramount Die Casting and United Die Casting. In 1961, Adolf married Martha Stiller, who preceded him in death in 1963. On March, 24, 1979, Adolf married Erna Kautz in Benton Harbor. He enjoyed working with his hands, wood working and masonry. He built his own home and years later did the renovations himself. He also enjoyed spending time in his garden. Adolf was also an avid soccer player and member of the St. Joe Kickers Club. Adolf is survived by his wife Erna; daughter, Rosy (Dan) Faulkner of Benton Harbor; step-daughter, Dagmar Klinenberg of St. Joseph; grandchildren, Tiffany and Adam Faulkner; and brother, Erich Schlender. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha; parents, Theodor and Ottile; and siblings, Arthur, Elsa, Waldemar and Sarafine.
