Raymond “Ray” Lee Hurt Jr., 77, of St. Joseph, MI passed away September 5, 2017 at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph with his wife by his side.
Ray was born January 17, 1940 in Evansville, IN to Raymond & Helen (Waters) Hurt Sr. He graduated from the University of Evansville. On August 18, 1987 he married Sandee and together they celebrated 30 years of marriage. Ray worked for Whirlpool Corporation as an Accountant for many years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Ray was an avid golfer, and former member of Berrien Hills Country Club and Orchard Hills Country Club. Ray was friendly and loved being around people, especially his family. In his spare time he enjoyed watching Gunsmoke reruns, fishing, and was a Peyton Manning fan. Raymond is survived by his wife Sandee of St. Joseph; children, Heather (Mark) Denekas of St. Joseph, Ryan (Traci) Smith of St. Joseph, Lisa (Michael) Lovell of Robards, KY, Scott (Diana) Hurt of Evansville, IN, and Shea (Jeff) Williams of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Ellie Smith, Lanie Smith, Henry Smith, Josh (Stephanie) Girdley, Caty (Daniel) Mobley, Kendall Hurt, Madeline Grace, Jeffrey Clay; great-grandchildren, Collin and Elliott; brothers, David and Terry; sisters, Carolyn and Beverly. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister, and in-laws Henry and Elsie Gietler.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 619 Market St., St. Joseph with Pastor Michael Roth officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Friends may visit from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Friday, September 8, 2017 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph.
