Edward's Obituary
Edward B. “Slim” Kubash, a.k.a the “Walker Man,” 93, of Stevensville, passed away at Hanson Hospice Center on July 20, 2017. Cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held at Resurrection Cemetery, St. Joseph, MI with Deacon Michael Gallagher officiating. Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Edward was born in Chicago, IL, October 24, 1923. He graduated from Tilden Technical High School, attended Illinois Institute of Technology and was drafted into the U.S. Army in February 1943. He proudly served during WW II with HQ. BTRY. 156 F.A.BN., 44 INF. Div., 7th Army in combat across France, southern Germany and ending in western Austria. S/Sgt. Kubash’s E.T.O. campaign medal has 4 battle stars. Preparation for the 44th Division’s planned invasion of the Japanese mainland quickly ended with the dropping of the Hiroshima A bomb. Also, for some 50 years, he set up his outfit’s reunions. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and V.F.W. post #1137. Edward retired from Auto Specialties Mfg. Co., Brake Engineering Dept., after 40 years.
On October 23, 1948, he married Margaret Frances Maffei. They were happily married for 60 years. He is survived by sons: James Edward (Linda), Thomas Edward (Lucy), and Douglas Edward; grandchildren Emily (Dan), Christopher, Aris, and Anna. Also, his sister Eleanor Frye of Stevensville. Preceding him in death are beloved wife Margaret, parents, Stephen and Anna Kubash, and brother, Steve.
