John Mai

John Mai, 83, of Stevensville, MI passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. John was born on July 23, 1934 in Kolmar, Germany to Emil & Elsa (König) Mai. He attended high school and went on to a trade college in Germany. John moved to the United States in 1953 at the age of 18. He married Wanda Bland on September 29, 1956 in Kalamazoo. He was the owner and operator of TypeHouse Inc. in St. Joseph for many years before his retirement in 1992. John was a member of the St. Joseph Kickers Club, an active member at the DANK and attended the First Church of God. On October 11, 2008 he wed Erika Guse in St. Joseph. John enjoyed his retirement, traveling, especially to Green Valley, Arizona where he resided during the winters, dancing and spending time with his family. John is survived by his loving wife Erika, son Mark (Vickie) Mai of Delton, MI; daughter Lauri (David) Foster of St. Joseph; step-daughters, Rita (Robert) Stabel of Swarz Creek, MI and Karen (John) Richard of Lebanon, OH; grandchildren Sarah Foster, Jonathan Foster and Ty Mai; step-grandchildren Ryan Stabel, Rachel Wilcox, Angela Holcomb and Michael Richard; brother Harry Mai of Kalamazoo and sister Erika (Hans) Kissel of Las Vegas, NV. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Wanda on November 13, 2004 and his grandson Parker Mai on November 19, 2007. A private family service celebrating John’s life will be held. John will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Memorial contributions may be made to First Church of God.
