Mathew's Obituary

Mathew Peter (Bud) Borre died July 7, 2017. Bud was born to Mathew and Anne Borre in Chicago on July 12, 1927.  He attended New Trier High School and joined the Marines at the young age of 17 where he proudly served his country for two years.  After his discharge, he attended what was then Michigan State College from which he graduated with a BS degree. It was at MSU that Bud met his future wife, Jean. They had a very happy marriage until Jean’s death in 2014.  Together they raised four children:  Mary Ann (Joe) Pater, Mathew P. (Chip) Borre, Michael (Liz) Borre and Steve (Michele) Borre.  He was very proud of and spoke often about his thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Bud is also survived by a brother, Jim Borre of Florida. Bud spent almost 15 years in sales for Abbott Laboratories when he decided he would rather work for himself. So, with Jean’s assistance, he purchased the Ace Hardware in Scottdale which they ran together until he passed it on to his son, Chip.  Bud and Jean sponsored a Vietnamese family in the 1970’s and they and their son, Steven Tran became part of their extended family. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jean, a brother Tom, and his son, Mike. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 10, 2017 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church officiated by Msgr. Eugene Sears. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph, Michigan.  Memorials may be made the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or The Michigan Parkinson’s Foundation.  If you would like to leave condolence, please do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
