Janet E. Kemp

Janet Eugenia Kemp, 80, of Stevensville, MI passed away Sat., May 20, 2017 at Hanson Hospice Center with family by her side. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home.  Per her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 12:00 PM at Stevensville United Methodist Church, 5506 Ridge Road, Stevensville, MI. Those wishing to visit with the family may do so from 11:00 AM until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or charity of the donor’s choice. Friends wishing to leave the family a message of condolence or memory of Janet may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com                       Janet was born to Eugene and Irma (Israel) Rager on August 9, 1936 in Toledo, OH. She was raised by her grandparents William and Eugenie Rager in Rossford, OH. She graduated from Rossford High School in 1954 and attended Bowling Green State University. Then in 1958 she married Donald Kemp. In 1971 the family moved to Stevensville where she became a member of Stevensville United Methodist Church, serving on many committees during her active membership. She was employed with the Civil Division of the 5th District Court in both Niles and St. Joseph as well as for the former St. Lukes Lutheran Church.  When working in St. Joseph, she biked to work most days. She also enjoyed cross-country skiing and snow-shoeing in Grand Mere or along Hickory Creek as well as spending time walking her beloved dogs. Janet is survived by her husband of 58 years Don Kemp; children Victoria (Gary) Harms of Albuquerque, NM, Lynn (Steve) Hall of Corydon, IN, Brian Kemp of Indianapolis, IN, and Sandra Kemp of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren Jessica Gardea, Heather Hall, Christopher Harms, and Mark Harms; and brother William (Vicky) Rager of Perrysburg, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents.
