Richard “Dick” A. Smith, 72, of St. Joseph, MI passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Lakeland Medical Center- St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph with Rev. Tom Bird officiating. Burial will follow at Lincoln Township Cemetery in Stevensville. Friends may visit from 9:30 AM until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Lakeshore High School’s Athletic Department. He graduated from Leslie High School in Arkansas in 1965. On December 2, 1985 he married the love of his life Donita Tanner in Humble, TX. Dick was a sports fanatic, he loved watching any sport, especially Lakeshore High School teams. He enjoyed collecting sporting cards and attending games with his sports buddies. Dick never knew a stranger because of his ability to connect with anyone he just met. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and attending the sporting events of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dick will be missed by all who knew him. Dick is survived by his loving wife Donita Smith; children, Richard (Tammy) Smith, Jr., of South Haven, Christopher Smith of Pullman, MI, Julee (Marcus) Smucker of Eureka, IL and Ryan (Andrea) Greer of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Christopher Burrows, Jessica Smith, Shelby Smith, RC Smith, Brendon Smith, David Michael Smith II, Alex Smith and Daniel Smucker and great-grandchildren Tanner, Kaisyn, Brielle, Layndon and Nevaeh ; sister Dorris (JR) Rose of Ukiah, CA and his sports buddies Larry Newberry and Donnie Ingle. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.
