Lester P. Wonson, 86, of St. Joseph, MI passed away Monday, February 27, 2017 at his home.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Pastor Mark Mitchell officiating. Military Rites provided by the North Berrien Military Rites Team. Inurnment will take place following the service at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, March 13, 2017 from 5 Pm until 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Lester was born August 28, 1930 in Binghamton, NY to Paul Augustus & Margaret Ann (McRoberts) Wonson. He was a graduate of St. Joseph High School. Lester proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He married Leona Dahms on May 16, 1953 and she preceded him in death in 1987. He wed Mildred Masters in 1992 and she preceded him in death in 2016. He worked as an electronic engineer and was the Sr. Process Engineer at Whirlpool for 35 years before retiring. Lester was a member of the Sons of the Revolution for many years and was also a fourth degree Mason.
Lester is survived by his sons Stephen Wonson of St. Joseph, and Doug (Maribeth) Wonson of Southlake, TX; grandchildren Earick (Kelly) Wonson, Carla (Scott) Gordon, Alyssa Wonson and Samuel Wonson; great-grandson TJ Weedman and Mildred’s children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives Leona Wonson and Mildred Masters-Wonson and his sister Marion A. Langdon.
