Lydia's Obituary
Lydia Christene Merfeld, 57, of Benton Harbor, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at 12:00 P.M. at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Father John Peter officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Berrien County Cancer Service. Lydia was born on January 15, 1960, to Ralph & Bessie (Barry) Roots in Grass Valley, California. On April 26, 1996, she married Brian Merfeld in St. Joseph. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Watervliet. Lydia enjoyed knitting and cross stitching.
Lydia is survived by her husband, Brian Merfeld of Benton Harbor; children, Christopher (Angelique) Owens of Modesto, California and Kevin Merfeld of Benton Harbor; and grandson, Jesse Mason. She is also survived by her brother, Ralph (Annamarie Stradley) Roots; sisters, Penny (Richard) Long and Nielita Davis; and her mother-in-law Zerelda “Jeri” Merfeld.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
