A. Craig Burandt, 67, of St. Joseph, passed away, Friday, January 20, 2017 at his home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Friday, January 27 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial donations in Craig’s name may be made to Michigan State University College of Social Science or Berrien County Cancer Service. Those wishing to sign Craig’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Craig was born January 27, 1949 in St. Joseph to local farmers, Arnold & Geraldine (Spear) Burandt. He graduated from Lakeshore High School in 1967 and from Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s degree in 1971. On January 18, 1975, he married Donna Nordstrom in St. Joseph. Craig was employed as the water & sewer superintendent for Chikaming Township from 1977 until 1995 when he gained employment with St. Joseph Public Works, also as superintendent of sewer & water, retiring in 2011. Craig continued to work part-time for Chikaming Township until his passing. Craig was a member of the MSU Alumni Association and a co-chair for the MSU Steak & Suds Committee. He was a long-time member of FOP Lodge #96 in St. Joseph and the Water Department Breakfast Group. In his free time, Craig enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, camping, and working on his vintage Mustang He was also an avid grower of summer fruits and veggies. Craig is survived by his wife Donna; his daughter Amy C. Burandt and her husband Kermit T. Quayle of Ann Arbor; his son Adam Nordstrom Burandt of Portland, OR; his sister Leanna Friesen of Benton Harbor; his brother-in-law Norman (Jean) Nordstrom of Novi, MI; his niece Nicole Nordstrom; special cousins Rick & Nancy Ast of St. Joseph; and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved chocolate lab, Tasha.
