Dorothy's Obituary

Dorothy Charlotte Krumrie, 94, of St. Joseph, passed away Friday, November 25, 2016 at Caretel Inns of Lakeland in St. Joseph.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:30 A.M. Friday, December 2, 2016 at Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ, 3001 Veronica Dr., St. Joseph, where the family will receive relatives and friends for one hour prior to the service. Rev. Adam Bohland will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Lincoln Township Cemetery in Stevensvillle, with military rites conducted by the North Berrien Military Rites Team.  Memorial donations in Dorothy’s name may be made to the Humane Society of Southwest Michigan, Animal Aid, or Berrien County Cancer Service.  Those wishing to sign Dorothy’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.  Dorothy was born August 22, 1922 in South Bend, Indiana to Lawrence M. & Lilly M. (Jackson) Schneider. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1941. Dorothy joined the Women’s Army Corp. which was attached to the Air Force.  She attended Aviation School in Chicago where she wrote a manual on aircraft information and instruments, and served her country during WWII.  On June 14, 1946, she married Leonard Krumrie in St. Joseph.  She and Leonard owned and operated ElKay Patterns & Models in St. Joseph.  Dorothy was a member of Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ, Blossomland Doll Club, Questers Local Chapter Burnett Traders, & the Senior Writers Club at the Box Factory in St. Joseph.  She loved the many dogs that she owned over the years & animals in general. In her free time Dorothy enjoyed doing arts & crafts, writing short stories & poetry, collecting dolls, teddy bears & antiques, and the time spent with her family-especially her grandchildren.    Dorothy is survived by her daughter Sharon (Terry) Eichler of Bridgman; grandchildren-Stephanie (John) Guse, Matthew (Jill) Johnson, Tina Eichler & Butch Eichler; great-grandchildren-Taylor & Austin Winnell & Haley Eichler; two sisters-in-law-Jacquie Schneider & Jean Schneider; and numerous nieces & nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Leonard on February 19, 2012, her parents, two brothers and a sister.
