Richard S. Johnson

Dick S. Johnson, 79, of Stevensville, MI, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville. A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at 3:00 PM at St. Joseph First United Methodist Church, 2950 Lakeview Ave., St. Joseph, with Rev. Harris Hoekwater officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 3 PM until 5 PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph First United Methodist Church or Hanson Hospice.  Those wishing to sign Dick’s memory book may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Dick was born on November 23, 1936 in Watervliet, MI, to Edward & Aleene M. (Stanley) Johnson. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1957.  After high school, Dick proudly served our country in the United States Navy for four years.  On April 28th, 1962 he married the love of his life, Jane Childs in Baltimore, Maryland.  He worked at Whirlpool Financial for over 24 years before retiring in 1998.  Dick was a member St. Joseph First United Methodist Church and member and past president of the St. Joseph Township Lions Club.  He was an avid golfer, enjoyed photography and watching the Detroit Lions in his free time. Dick is survived by his son, Steven Johnson of Benton Harbor and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Jane Johnson on May 10, 2005.
