Maxine V. Mock, 97, of St. Joseph, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at her home.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 10:00AM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Minister Steve Pylkas officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, October 3, 2016 from 5 PM until 7 PM at the funeral home. Maxine was born on July 2, 1919 in Clinton, Indiana to Frank & Alvena (Martin) Cavicchia. She worked at the former Whitcomb Hotel in St. Joseph for 16 years, where she waited on several famous people such as the former first lady, Eleanor Roosevelt. On October 29, 1938, she married the love of her life, Willis “Buzzy” Mock, in South Bend, Indiana. Maxine loved singing, camping, bowling and reading Amish romance novels. She also enjoyed traveling and loved visiting her family and friends in Florida. Since 2001, Maxine would spend the winter months at Orange Acres in Sarasota, FL. She was a proud member of the Red Hats Society and was the eldest member of the St. Joseph Church of Christ Congregation. Maxine will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
Maxine is survived by her children, Judy (Charles) Jones of Sarasota, FL, Jan Mundy of Berrien Springs, Jim (Candace) Mock of Stevensville, John (Ashley) Mock of Berrien Springs and Jeanne (Matt) McKelvey of St. Joseph; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces & nephews; and special friends Kay Gyenes & Sue Morey.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willis “Buzzy” Mock, who passed in February 2002; siblings, Bud Cavicchia, Ruth Crisafulli, Betty Anthony and Dick Houser and son-in-law, Bill Mundy.
