Vera's Obituary

Vera Ingeborg Svenson Findley, 95, of Bridgman, MI, passed away October 2, 2016 at West Woods of Bridgman. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Service, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, 269-556-9450. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 11:30 A.M. at The Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1965 Broadway, Benton Harbor, with Rev. Paul Naumann officiating. Light refreshments will be served at the church following the service. Burial will be scheduled at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in Vera’s name to The Good Shepherd Evangelical Church.  Those wishing to share a memory of Vera may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Vera was born on July 21, 1921 to Mr. and Mrs. Svenson in Sweden. She was number ten of fifteen children. At the age of 18, she, along with three of her siblings, emigrated to America, making their home in Connecticut. While attending a dance, Vera met the love of her life, Arnold Findley.  They were wed in Florida in 1942 and together raised three sons.  Vera enjoyed knitting, crocheting, music, the Cubs, the color blue, people in general, and making them smile.  Her most memorable moment in life was when she became an American citizen.  Her greatest joy was her family. She will be greatly missed. Vera is survived by three sons, Lawrence (Karen Clister) Findley of West Virginia, Robert (Barbara) Findley of Delaware and Richard (Barbara) Findley of Benton Harbor; 4 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; a sister, Elva Girard of Connecticut; two brothers, Kalle and Olle Sigvant of Sweden and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her husband, Arnold (1975); parents; 4 brothers and 7 sisters.
