August 28th, 1979 - August 27th, 2016

Michelle's Obituary

Michelle “Shelly” Laura Shuler of St. Joseph passed away in her sleep on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at her home. She celebrated her 37th birthday in Heaven as a perfect creation. Shelly was born August 28, 1979 in St. Joseph to Stephen and Mary (Erdman) Shuler. At the age of 10, she was diagnosed with a Chromosome 18 Syndrome. She graduated from Blossomland Learning Center in 2005.  She was a member of the Chromosome 18 Society and Trinity Lutheran Church.  A true music lover, when she was younger she would enjoy listening to her brother and sister practice the piano. Shelly especially liked listening to Big Band songs.  Their family saying was “Shelly – straighten up” so whenever she heard the song “Straighten Up and Fly Right” she would start laughing. She also enjoyed travel, being with people, and especially Christmas with all of the lights. In spite of all of her medical issues, she was always cheerful and happy. She was a blessing and inspiration to all who knew or met her. Shelly is survived by her parents, Steve and Mary; siblings, Rebecca and Jason Shuler; nephew Matthew Shuler; grandparents, Rev. Leonard & Pauline Erdman, Robert Shuler, and Delores Wilder; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by grandmother, LaVon Shuler; and cousin, Robert Shuler. Shelly’s struggles are now over. She is perfect and she is in the perfect place that was prepared for her when she was born. She is now at her family reunion with all who have gone before her; in the arms of Christ her Savior. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 A.M., Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 619 Main St., St. Joseph, with Pastor Michael Roth officiating.  Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Burial will be scheduled for a later date in Wisconsin. Memorials may be made to the Chromosome 18 Registry and Research Society or Trinity Lutheran Church. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
