Archie's Obituary
Archie S. “Art” Clark, 84, of St. Joseph, went to meet his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph.
A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at the First Church of God, 2627 Niles Ave., St. Joseph, with Rev. Robert Confer officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the North Berrien Military Rites Team. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Monday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorial donations may be made to Veteran’s Support Endowment. Art was born October 29, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan to James & Helen (Smart) Clark. He graduated from Mackinzie High School and Wayne State University in Detroit. In January 1952, he was drafted into the US Army, serving as a tank commander in Korea during the Korean War, completing his service in October 1953. On August 14, 1954, Art married Carol Sutliff in Detroit, and they enjoyed sixty-two years together. Art gained employment with Whirlpool Corp. in 1967, retiring in 1990 with dual leadership as Assistant Treasurer of Whirlpool Corp and Treasurer of Whirlpool Acceptance Corp.
Art was active in the Boy Scouts of America for over seventy years, serving as Southwest Michigan Council President from 1981 to 1985. He received the Eagle Scout Award, the Silver Beaver Award in 1982, and District Award of Merit. On September 9, 1999, Art & his son Jim founded Boy Scout Troup #614 at First Church of God in St. Joseph. Art served as president of Blossomland United Way in 1988 and of Berrien Hills Country Club 1997-1998.
Art was a member of the First Church of God where he served as a Stephen’s Minister and an usher. He currently was president of the Korean Veteran’s of Southwest Michigan, on the Board of Directors of Woodworkers Guild, and a member of Stevensville American Legion Post #568 and Lest We Forget.
Art is survived by his wife Carol; three children-James L. (Deborah “Deb”) Clark of Stevensville, Cheryl Moore of Grand Rapids, MI, Lois (Tom) Rusco of Milton, GA; grandchildren-Ryan (Savanna Paxton) Clark, Brandon (Becky) Clark, Jaenell (Kristian) Woods, Kelsey & Kara Reinhardt. Art was preceded in death by his parents.
