Madelyn Jeffery

Madelyn “Peg” Jeffery, 91, of St. Joseph, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma.  Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home.  Those wishing to sign Peg’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.  Peg was born April 20, 1925 in South Bend, Indiana to Arthur & Edna (Felgner) Burtzloff. Her family moved to Benton Harbor shortly after and she graduated from Benton Harbor High School, Class of 1943. On May 9, 1947, she married Robert C. Jeffery in South Bend.  Peg graduated from nursing school in 1948 as a Registered Nurse and her career spanned nearly 40 years in Labor & Delivery at Mercy & Memorial Hospitals in Benton Harbor & St. Joseph. Peg cherished the time spent with her family and enjoyed watching Jeopardy, The Price Is Right & Judge Judy, to name a few, on TV.     Peg is survived by two sons-Marc (Nancy) Jeffery of Stevensville, Kim Jeffery of St. Joseph; four grandchildren-Pam (Jim) Gohn, Randy (Kara) Jeffery, Nicole (Jason) Wiley, Craig (Fiancee Rachael Knaak) Jeffery; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert on July 2, 1993, her daughter-in-law Robin Jeffery on September 29, 1993, and her brother Charles Burtzloff.
