Frederick J. Martin, 97, of Stevensville, MI passed away at Caretel Inns of Lakeland on Friday, June 24, 2016. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home, St. Joseph, MI.
Fred was born on March 7, 1919 in Lansing, IL to the late Carl and Christina (Bitter) Martin. He served his country during WWII while in the U.S. Army. Fred was a line supplier at Whirlpool for 35 years retiring in 1985. He was a member and active on several boards at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stevensville. He enjoyed fruit farming, fishing, playing cards and the Detroit Tigers.
Fred is survived by his son – Robert (Holly) Martin of Stevensville, MI; two grandchildren – Heather (Aaron) Broehm and Elizabeth Wood; three great grandchildren – Claire, Nolan and Emma; and a sister – Adeline Freehling of Bridgman, MI. Preceding him in death are his first wife Magdalena and second wife Elizabeth; and six brothers and sisters.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, June 30, 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 2673 W. John Beers Rd, Stevensville, MI. Military Rites will be conducted by Stevensville American Legion Post #568. Visitation is on Wednesday, June 29, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI. Burial at Spring Run Cemetery will take place at a later date.
