Frederick's Obituary

Frederick S. Ochs, Jr., 80, of Benton Harbor, passed away May 12, 2016 in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Starks and Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Service, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Rev. Harris Hoekwater officiating.  Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Friends may visit with the family from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM before the service.  Memorial contributions may be made in Fred’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, Michigan Great Lakes Chapter 350 E. Michigan Ave., Suite 20 Kalamazoo, MI 49007. Those wishing to share a memory of Fred may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com Fred was born December 19, 1935 to Frederick and Dorothy (Parker) Ochs, Sr. in Oil City, PA. He graduated from Coloma High School in 1953. On March 2, 1956 he married Shirley Frazier in St. Joseph, MI.  He was a Great Lakes Naval Reservist, worked as a core room superintendent at Auto Specialties, worked as an independent truck driver and enjoyed fishing and camping during his time off.  He especially loved spending time with his family. Fred is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley; sons Frederick Ochs and Jeffrey Ochs both of Benton Harbor; sisters Margaret “Peg” Williamson of Benton Harbor and Katherine (Terry) Schaetzke of Milwaukee, WI; brothers Darwin (Paulette) Clemens of Bristol, RI, James (JoAnn) Clemens of Mascoutah, IL and Thomas Brininger of Chicago, IL; brother-in-law, Paul Schorr and numerous nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marilyn Schorr.
