Rose's Obituary

Rose “Miss Rose” Ogston, 89, of St. Joseph, passed away, Friday, March 25, 2016 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. Order of Eastern Star Rites conducted by the America Chapter #234 will be held at 2:00 P.M., April 9, at Zion United Church of Christ, 3001 Veronica Dr., St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service with Rev. David Slater officiating will follow.  Visitation will be from 1-2 P.M. prior to the service.  Memorial donations may be made to Order of Eastern Star America Chapter #234.  Those wishing to sign Rose’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Rose was born September 7, 1926 in Ste. Saint Marie, Michigan to Richard  & Rose (LaMothe) Watchorn.  She graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic Girls School in Ste. Saint Marie in 1944.  On  December 12, 1953 she married John Alec Ogston in Ste. Saint Marie. Together, for many years, they owned & operated Ogston’s Service, a gas station/convenience store/restaurant in Newberry, MI until the family moved to St. Joseph.  Rose earned her cosmetology license and became an instructor at Twin City Beauty College, a position she held for 34 years before retiring in 2000.  Rose was a member of Zion UCC in St. Joseph where she sang in the choir, and a life member of 50 plus years of Order of Eastern Star America Chapter #234, where she served in all the different offices over the years. Rose is survived by two daughters-Pam Teal of Maui, Hawaii, Linda (Andy) Heier of St. Joseph; two grandchildren-Shawnna Teal & Leah (Carlos) Villa; three great-grandchildren-Joseph & Esteban Villa & Ryan Isum. She was preceded in death by her husband John on February 3, 1971 and numerous siblings.
