Jack Hubert Mix

Jack Mix, 92, of St. Joseph, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Lakeland Medical Center in St. Joseph. Jack, the son of Hubert and Lydia (Osman) Mix, was born in Three Rivers, MI on August 15, 1923. Shortly after his family moved to Benton Harbor. Jack graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1941. He enlisted in the Army Air Force during World War II and served in Corsica and Africa in the 428th Bomb Squadron. After the war ended, Jack returned to Benton Harbor and shortly after went to work at the washer and dryer division of Whirlpool Corporation in St. Joseph, where he worked until his retirement in 1985. He moved to St. Joseph in 1958 and had lived there ever since. Jack asked that these words, loosely taken from an old song, be included in his obituary: “We’ll build a little nest somewhere in the west (Western Michigan) and watch the rest of the world go by sitting on the front porch of my Lake Boulevard home.” Jack greatly enjoyed the Lake Michigan beaches when he was younger and his porch as he got older. Jack is survived by his two great friends and care takers, Jim Williamson and David Piner. He is also survived by his niece Linda Teufel (Gene), great-nephew Michael Heimke, great-niece Jennifer Moore (Ron), great-great-nieces Candace and Meranda Heimke, and great-great-nephews Brendan and Carson Moore, all of the Detroit area. He was preceded by his parents, sister Joyce Jacobsen and niece Janis Jacobsen Morse. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:30 AM Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Friends may visit from 11:00 AM until 11:30 AM prior to the service. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Humane Society of Southwest Michigan.
