Lawrence's Obituary

Lawrence “Larry” Eva, 63, of Granger, IN (formerly of Berrien Springs, MI) passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at his home.    A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held from 5 pm until 8 pm Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vision Outreach International at visionoutreach.org.  Those wishing to sign Larry’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.  Larry was born February 24, 1952 in Benton Harbor to Richard and Lois (Eck) Eva.  He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1972.  Larry worked for D.C. Cook Nuclear Plant for over 40 years, or “since dirt” as Larry would say, and was a past president of the Employee’s Club.  In Larry’s younger years he worked at a marina in Traverse City and enjoyed boats and sailing.  He had a die cast car collection and loved cars, including his once beloved white Corvette. Larry loved to tinker on engines, and could fix anything, and everything. He also never met a flashlight he didn’t like.  He enjoyed football, and was a fan of the Chicago Bears and University of Michigan.   Larry is survived by his children, Jennifer (Rob Slabaugh) Eva of Buchanan, Steven Eva of Granger, and Taryn Eva of Grand Rapids; step-grandson Nathaniel Slabaugh; siblings Susan (Dick) Koelling of Albany, NY, Rick (Mary) Eva, Jr. of Canton, MI and Cathy (Jim) Welch of East Greenbush, NY; numerous beloved nieces and nephews; and his canine companion Buddy. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, and best friend Eddie Breault.
