Ed was born to Carroll and Marie (Kemp) Mayle on November 27, 1933 in Fremont, Ohio. After Marie’s passing, Ed was raised by Carroll and Katherine. He met the love of his life, Rose Miano, in the summer of 1951. Four years later they married on April 30, 1955 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Bellevue, Ohio. In 1956, they welcomed their first of five children.
After graduation from Saint Joseph High School Fremont, OH, he started working at the family business of Fremont Tool and Die. In 1957, he began his career at Sandvik Steel in Cleveland, Ohio. Ed started in the factory and quickly moved up from there. His wisdom, values, work ethic and strategic thinking did not go unnoticed. In 1973, Ed was promoted to Vice President and his family moved to Benton Harbor, MI. Ed continued to get more opportunities throughout his career at Sandvik Steel but did not want to leave the St. Joseph/Benton Harbor community. Ed was an avid boater who enjoyed living on the water and entertaining friends and family on his boat with his wife, Rose. Ed served on the board of Birthright, the board for the Chamber of Commerce and volunteered as a jail minister.
Anyone who knew Ed understood his love for sports! He was a great basketball and football player, a huge supporter of his children and grandchildren’s athletic successes, and forever an Ohio State and Notre Dame fan.
Most importantly, Ed loved his family and adored his beautiful wife Rose. He and Rose loved traveling (especially to Sweden and Italy), spending time on the water, and raising their beautiful family (a never ending task!).
Ed’s love for God was at the center of his life. He was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church where he attended Mass daily, and spent much time in Adoration. A good and faithful Servant of God.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife Rose; father of Gina (George) Richards, Michael (Deborah) Mayle, Lori (Bob) Putnam, Shirley (Keene) Taylor, and Edward (Liz) Mayle; devoted grandfather of Helen (Harrison) Richards Lamons, Monica (Josh) Perkins, Alexandra Richards, Ashley (Charles) Haight, Brooke (Stephen) Peters, Megan Putnam, Emily Putnam, Ty Taylor, and Samantha Taylor; Great-grandfather of Grayson and Emmett Perkins; dear brother of Marian (Doyle) Kusmer, Peg (Kent) Merrill, Joan (Frank) Barr, Don (Maureen) Mayle, Carolyn Vacca, Delores (Dewayne) Michael and Bill (Sue) Mayle. Ed was preceded in death by two grandsons, Trace Taylor and T Taylor.
