Jason Matias Woolery

Jason Matias Woolery, 42, of St. Joseph, MI passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Providence Park Hospital in Novi, MI. A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at 1 PM at First Church of God, 2627 Niles Ave., St. Joseph, with Pastor Bob Confer officiating. Friends may visit on Monday, November 2, 2015 from 5 PM until 8 PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jaier Scholarship Fund at P.O. Box 216, St. Joseph, MI 49085 and the Raiden Woolery Scholarship Fund at Fifth Third Bank, 2913 S. Jason was born on June 17, 1973 in Tempe, AZ to Wood III and Maria (Ojeda) Woolery. In 1996, Jason earned his bachelor’s degree in History from Calvin College. On February 2, 2014 Jason married Karen Spoelman at the First Church of God. Jason’s passion in life was soccer, especially teaching soccer to the youth of Southwest Michigan. He was one of the founders and the Training Director for Jaier Athletic Futbol Club and also was the soccer coach for Lake Michigan College. Jason was a proud enrolled member of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. Jason loved art, drawing, calligraphy and reggae music. Jason was a great inspiration and leader in our community and will be greatly missed by everyone. Jason is survived by his wife Karen; son, Raiden Woolery; parents, Woody and Maria; brother, Jeremy (Kelly O’ Brien) Woolery of St. Joseph; sister, Victoria (Jeffery) Makries of Austin, TX; niece and nephew, Isabella and Zayden Makries; and many other close family and friends. Jason was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wood, Jr. and Helen Woolery, and Warren and Victoria Steele, Maria Luisa Luna Navarro, Aunt Beatrice Mary Maldonado, and both sets of great grandparents.
