Oscar E. Wendt, 94, of St. Joseph passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Caretel Inns of Lakeland. A private service will be held at North Shore Memory Gardens. Per Oscars wishes cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice at Home. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com Oscar was born on October 4, 1921 in Benton Harbor to August and Olga (Wirske) Wendt. On October 18, 1947 Oscar married the love of his life, Hilda Blenn, in Benton Harbor. Oscar enlisted in the United States Naval Air Corps as a Dive Bomber Pilot during WWII. After returning home, Oscar worked as a Product Manager of commercial refrigeration at Whirpool, retiring in 1983. During his time with Whirpool, Oscar and Hilda were given the opportunity to travel worldwide. Oscar was known as Mr. Fix-it, he could fix anything and everything that neighbors brought him. Oscar was a proud member of Grace Lutheran Church and an avid lifelong golfer. Oscar is survived by his children, Jeffrey Wendt of St. Joseph and Susan Broady of Independence, CA; grandchildren, Ashley and Andy Broady; and 3 great-grandchildren. Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, August and Olga; wife, Hilda; 2 brothers and 4 sisters.
