Christine M. Schmidt

Christine M. Schmidt, 77, formerly of Battle Creek, MI passed away Friday, October 09, 2015 at the Whitcomb Towers in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph, with Pastor Cary Grant officiating. Friends may visit from 1:00 PM until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice at Home or St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church-Battle Creek. Those wishing to sign Christine’s guestbook may do so online at www.starks-menchinger.com. Christine was born on January 11, 1938 in Munich, Germany to Freidrich and Maria (Pruger) Meyer. On September 27, 1961 she wed Josef Schmidt in Munich. On June 25, 1965, she and Josef came to the United States and lived in Battle Creek where they raised their family. Christine kept a busy schedule caring for her home and her sons. She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Battle Creek.  Christine enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, playing games and cards, caring for the various family dogs and watching the Detroit Tigers.  Most of all, Christine loved spending time with her grandsons. Christine is survived by her sons Karl Schmidt (fiancée, Kim Thompson) of Kalamazoo, Hans (Laurie) Schmidt of Stevensville; grandsons Max Schmidt and Erik Schmidt, sister Ilse Young of Tuscon, AZ, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on December 7, 2007, brother Karl Meyer and sister Lotte Weger.
