Edward's Obituary

Edward “Ed” T. Owsianka, 85, of St. Joseph, passed away peacefully Monday, October 12, 2015 at his home with his loving family by his side. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at 4:00 P.M., at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road. Friends may visit on Saturday from 3:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at the Chapel. Burial will take place on Monday at 9:30 A.M., October 19, 2015 at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph, with military rites conducted. Memorial contributions can be made to the Disabled American Veterans. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Ed was born on May 12, 1930 to Frank and Bernice (Biernacka) Owsianka in Chicago, IL. He married the love of his life Kiyoko Hanashiro. Ed proudly served our country during the Berlin Airlift, Korean War, and the Vietnam War, retiring from the U.S. Air Force in 1967 with 20 years of service. Ed retired from Whirlpool Corp. in 1988 after 22 years of service and then worked part-time at Mark III Restaurant from 1990 until his passing. Ed enjoyed cheering on Notre Dame and Green Bay football, and Jeff Gordon while watching NASCAR racing. He also took pleasure in watching St. Joseph High School sporting events. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed. Ed is survived by his wife, Kiyoko; children, Edward (Carol) Owsianka, Dan (Barb) Owsianka, Mary Hoag all of Bradenton, FL, Bernice (Andrew) Berger of Lake Worth, FL, Ken Owsianka of Los Angeles, CA, and Janet (Gene Auxtinee) Owsianka of Coloma; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and brother, Frank Osanka of Racine, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Bernice.
