Vern's Obituary

Vern S. “Jim” Amundson, 90, of Benton Harbor, went to meet his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville. A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Napier Parkview Baptist Church, 245 W. Napier Ave., Benton Harbor, with Dr. J.O. Hosler officiating.  Military Rites will be conducted  at the Church by the North Berrien Military Rites Team.  Cremation will follow the service with private burial at Shanghai Cemetery in Eau Claire.  Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 A.M. until Noon Tuesday at the Church.  Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home.  Those wishing to sign Jim’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Jim was born April 1, 1925 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Sidney & Martha (Zerwitski) Amundson.  He served his country in the United States Army during The Korean War.  On October 19, 1962, he married the former Maxine L. Jewell in Benton Harbor.  Jim was employed as a pressman at the Herald Palladium, retiring after 38 years.  For many years he also did interior & exterior house painting in the area.  Jim was a quiet man and a faithful member of Napier Parkview Baptist Church and formerly of Calvary Bible Church.  He served as a Sunday School Teacher and an Awana Leader.  Jim enjoyed reading & watching TV-Westerns & History being his favorite subject of both.  In his younger years, he enjoyed playing golf, and still enjoyed watching it on TV.  He especially enjoyed the time spent with his family and his church family. Jim is survived by his daughters-Lois (David) Stockwell of Three Oaks, Sharon (Ed) Crampton of St. Joseph; three grandchildren-Paul Christian Stockwell, Lyssa Ann Stockwell & Ed (Sara) Crampton, II; five great-grandchildren-Lily Ann, Daniel Michael & Bridgette Ann Stockwell, Landyn Edward & Hudson Lee Crampton; two sisters-Gladys (Ed) Weaver of California, Joyce Nugent of Arizona; and a large extended family.  He was preceded in death by his wife Maxine on June 21, 2008.
