Fred's Obituary

Fred Hultgren, 65, of Stevensville, passed away, Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 24, 2015 at St. John’s Catholic Church, 600 Columbus Ave., Benton Harbor, with Fr. German Perez-Diaz officiating.  Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma.  Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. Sunday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph.  Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home or St. John-St. Bernard Parish.  Those wishing to sign Fred’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Fred was born March 12, 1950 in Benton Harbor to Roland & Rose (Lomonaco) Hultgren.  He attended St. John’s Catholic High School through the 11th grade and graduated Benton Harbor High School in 1968.  Fred gained employment at Doubleday Brothers during high school and made that his career.  On December 6, 1968 he married the former Tamra Duran at St. John’s Catholic Church in Benton Harbor.  After serving his country in the US Army in Vietnam, he returned to Doubleday and worked his way up to Vice President.  In 1997 he became co-owner with two partners until 2009 when Fred sold his interest.  He continued with the company as a consultant, retiring in 2011.  Fred was a member of St. John-St. Bernard Parish and the Stevensville American Legion.  He enjoyed watching old Westerns on TV, hunting, golfing with Tammy, rooting for the Chicago Cubs, and vacationing with his good friends Mike & Tina Kirby. Fred is survived by his wife Tammy; his son Mark Hultgren of Dallas, Texas; his sister Kathy Baiers of St. Joseph; his mother-in-law Charlotte Duran of Baroda; numerous nieces & nephews; and his best friends Mike & Tina Kirby of Coloma.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and his father-in-law Nick Duran.
