Irene Reimers

Irene “Curly” Reimers, age 89, entered Paradise on Monday, July 13, 2015. She died at her home with her loving husband of 68 years, Herb, by her side.  She was born in Stevensville, Michigan on July 19, 1926. Herb and Curly were married on March 2, 1947. Together they owned Reimers Grocery Store and Herb’s Drive In, located across the street from one another in Benton Heights for 8 years.  In 1955 they founded Reimers Real Estate, where she served as secretary for 25 years.  Curly had been enjoying retirement for the past 40 years. Curly was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church in St Joseph.  At Grace she served on various boards, including Ladies Guild, funeral meal coordinator, and on the counting committee.  She was the Michigan Lutheran High School Lunch Mom for 8 years. She was also actively involved in her community by serving as a District Leader for the Berrien County Cancer Society, as president of the Child Study Group of Berrien County, and as a Notary Public for Berrien County. Curly was an avid reader, loved her flower gardens and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren including all their sporting events, concerts, and dance recitals. Curly is survived by her husband, Herb, 3 children; Susan (Tom) Kehr of Holland, Sandy Reimers of St Joseph, and Randy (Monika) Reimers of Sister Lakes.  She also has 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.  Curly was the last remaining member of the Hintz family. A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church, 404 E. Glenlord Rd., St Joseph. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph.  Burial will follow in Hickory Bluff Cemetery in Stevensville.
