Mildred's Obituary

Mildred L. Fetters, 94, of St. Joseph, MI passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, MI.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel in St. Joseph. Mildred was born on December 4, 1920 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Harry and Theresa (Lovell) Klepser.  She married Eugene Fetters November 28, 1942.  She is survived by her daughter Sharon Hafer of Asheville, NC, grandsons Mark Hafer of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Michael Hafer of Summerville, SC and granddaughter Cindy Hafer of Hanahan, SC, brother-in-law John Fetters (Marilyn) of St. Joseph, sister-in-law Jerry Klepser of Grand Rapids and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Fetters, her son E.R. (Skip) Fetters, her parents, and her brother Glen of Grand Rapids and her sister Vera of Rockford.  Mildred was an avid golfer and was a member of Point O’ Woods Country Club as well as Pinnacle Peak Country Club in Scottsdale, AZ.  She was a former member of Berrien Hills Country Club.  She was an 18-hole champion at Point O’ Woods and Berrien Hills.   Golf was truly a large part of her life with Eugene as their first date was golfing.  Mildred was a member and past president of Child and Family Services in St. Joseph.  She was a member of the First Congregational Church in St. Joseph.  She loved the game of Bridge and played at the Master level, playing at the library until she had a stroke and was unable to play at the level she had been used to.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, June 18, 11:00 AM, at the First Congregational Church, 2001 Niles Ave., St. Joseph, MI, with Rev. Dr. Robert Braman officiating.  Private committal services will be held prior to the service at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma, MI.  Visitation is on Wednesday, June 17, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph.  Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home or to the First Congregational Church of St. Joseph.  Friends wishing to leave the family a message of condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
