William's Obituary

William “Bill” A. Fisher, Jr., 89, of St. Joseph, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2015, at The Whitcomb where he resided. A private service will be held at a later date.  Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home or to the St. Joseph Public Library.  Those wishing to sign William’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Bill was born November 29, 1925, in St. Joseph to William A., Sr. and Frieda (Herrman) Fisher.  He graduated from St. Joseph High School and attended classes at Michigan State Extension.  He served his country in the US Army during WWII.  He was employed at Whirlpool Corporation, retiring after more than 30 years.  He was a regular blood donor and was very proud of the fact that he had donated over 200 pints in his lifetime.  Bill had an amazing sense of humor which was sharp right up to the end.  In his free time, he always enjoyed fishing and swimming, and had a love of the water, especially Lake Michigan.  He was an avid reader and a frequent, familiar visitor to the St. Joseph Public Library. He is survived by his children: Frances of Kalamazoo, Sandra of St. Joseph, and Scott of Portland, Oregon; three grandsons: Christopher, Michael, and Darian; one great-grandson, Jake; a cousin, Bob Humberg; and a special second cousin, Jeff Miller, both of St. Joseph.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers: Cliff and Vic Fisher; his sister, Mary Jane (Fisher) Morris; and his cousin, Doris (Eckles) Miller.
