Helen Virginia Bowers

Helen Virginia Bowers, 98, of St. Joseph, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2015, at Pine Ridge Nursing Ctr. in Stevensville. Helen was born March 5, 1917, to Emil and Gertrude Schiddel in Chicago, IL. On May 14, 1938 she married George Edward Bowers in St. Joseph, MI. They shared a devoted marriage for 45 years which was blessed with a son, George Emil Bowers. Helen was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting and crocheting. She had a kind heart for animals, especially her pet poodles and cats. Her greatest love was spending time with her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son and brothers, Philip Schiddel and Emil Schiddel. Helen is survived by a daughter-in-law Marcia Bowers, granddaughter Jodi (Shane) Price, a grandson Mark (Heidi) Bowers and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 24, 2015 followed immediately by a Celebration of Life at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Ave., St. Joseph.  Burial at North Shore Memory Gardens will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society in honor of Helen’s parents, husband and son. Those wishing to sign Helen’s memory book may do so online at www.starks-menchinger.com.
