Lovern's Obituary

Lovern L. Maier, 86, of St. Benton Harbor, MI passed away Monday, May 18, 2015 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, MI. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 3:00 P.M. Friday, May 22, 2015 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., with Rev. Gordon Barry officiating. Friends may visit from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hanson Hospice Center. Those wishing to sign Lovern’s guestbook may do so online at www.starks-menchinger.com. Lovern was born June 15, 1928 in Baroda, MI to Peter & Katherine (Hergenredder) Demler. She was a graduate of Baroda High School in 1947. On November 5, 1948 she wed Henry Maier in Baroda, MI, at the Zion United Church of Christ. She worked as a Brake Inspector for Bendix for 20 years before retiring. Lovern loved having fun and spending time with her family and neighbors Frank & Wanda Jackson, Mr. & Mrs. Maurice Burton and Joanne. She enjoyed watching her son Jim coach, the Detroit Tigers, and basketball. The family would like to thank the Hanson Hospice staff for the exceptional care they provided to Lovern over the last several weeks. She is survived by her son, James “Jim” (Marion) Maier of Stevensville; grandsons, Andrew (Tonya) Maier of Kaukauna, WI, and Alexander (Jenn) Maier of Macomb, MI; great-granddaughter, Ruby Maier of Kaukauna, WI; one great- grandson on the way; sister, Marion (Harold) Ladendorf of St. Joseph; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Henry, on May 13, 2011; sisters, Millie and Marge; and brothers, Edward, Henry “Hank” and George.
